Born on June 12, 1981, in Salvador, Bahia, Brazil, Adriana Lima never dreamed of becoming a supermodel. But when her friend at school entered a modeling contest, Adriana entered with her and her career took off. When she was just fifteen years old, Adriana won second place in the Ford Supermodel of the World Contest. After turning eighteen, Adriana headed to the bright, shining lights of New York City, where she signed with Elite Model Management. She landed her first magazine cover with Marie Claire Brazil in September 1998. She later made it to the cover of Italian Vogue Gioiello in September 2000 and Vogue Brasil in October 2000. Adriana later became a GUESS? girl and hit the runway for all of the hottest designers. She also modeled for brands like Armani, Prada, DKNY, Marc Jacobs, and Louis Vuitton. Though she is best known as a Victoria’s Secret model, Adriana has also taken up acting. She made her onscreen debut opposite Clive Owen and Mickey Rourke in the 2001 short The Follow. In 2008, she appeared as herself on an episode of the hit comedy Ugly Betty and wore a cleavage-baring dress.
